Behold, there came wise men from the east...

One spectacular thing attributed to the Christmas season is the visit of the wise men. Some scholars and theologians have noted that the visit of the wise men wasn't exactly at the time of his birth, rather, sometime later, the adduced reasons were:

1. they visited the young child, not a baby in a house and not a manger where he was born;

2.the journey: They journeyed from the east which was distant from the location of Jesus and His parents. Also, the means of transport employed, likely camels doesn't imply swift transport;

3. by Herod's calculation from the advice of the wise men which bothered around the appearance of the star, it was close to two years which was why he decided to kill children two years and below;

The number of wise men wasn't known because it wasn't stated in the scriptures, however, many people deduce their number because of the gifts that they came with. Some people have gone as far as naming them.

The important thing is that the child was so special, he was sought by nobles in spite of his humble entrance

In the next lesson, we shall look more into the issue of the wise men.
