The Lord Shall Keep You

Deliver my soul from the dog: my darling from the power of the dog

Everyone loves to live in a safe and secure place; Growth, love, harmony, progress and continuity thrives in a peaceful environment. God is peace and He is the God of peace, he desires to keep you safe everywhere and in every situation.

At War

King David was many things; warrior (soldier) was one of them; he was often involved in warfare, hence, this prayer for protection, especially in fierce battles. Let's run a parallel to our day; the war never ended, the battleground only shifted from brutal carnal warfare to camouflaged spiritual warfare; we are at war with the enemy of our soul, the devil, scriptures talk about fleshly lusts which war against the soul 1 Pet 2:11. The war today is a lot fiercer than the one that David sought deliverance from; the enemy knows that the time is limited and it is an issue of eternity, whoever loses remains a loser forever. And the Heathen

The Jew of David's day see this differently from how many perceive this today; to them, ‘the dog’ referred to the heathen, that is, those that do not know God, non believers and God haters. Many people flaunt their lack of faith and hatred for God these days, they even display open disdain and hatred for the things and the people of God. They seek to harm oppress and even destroy God’s people in extreme cases. But in all these things, we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. To conclude, the psalmist recorded,  The Lord shall preserve you from all evil;He shall preserve your soul.The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in
From this time forth, and even forevermore.Ps 121:6-8
