And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and SUBDUE IT: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. Gen 1:28
To
subdue is to overcome, quieten or bring under control, usually of a feeling or
person. The Earth: Ground, Dust, crust, the hard part that we stand
upon, farm on, build our houses on, etc
Man
was formed from the dust/clay of the ground and in fact, the name of the first
man, Adam was given in reference to his earth connection; it meant
'Clay/Ground/Earth' interesting, right!
Adam
was the prime and primary representative of earth. When God calls Adam, He
answered for the whole earth, he answered for everything because of his
connection to them. Anything that would happen on the earth had to happen
through that man, and that was why his fall led to a reversal of the normal
order of things Gen
3:1-15.
By extension, today, the custodian of the earth is still man, the redeemed of
the Lord.
Firstly,
let's understand
Subdue
the Earth
God
is very particular about His creation, you! In the lead scripture, God speaks
primarily to man, to you! What's the message here: God is telling us to control ourselves, the reason is that
men have a tendency to be wild; we took on this nature after the fall, Rom 3:23. God knows that the
body of man can yield to environmental factors and depart from Him; the body of
man can follow the patterns of the world and forget the leading of the
spirit.
This
often happens through the body, and here’s how: the body is ruled by the senses
(Touch, Taste, Hearing, Feeling/Touch, and Smell), when these are not in
subjection to the laws of God, the contrary nature is on display.
Men
today are not under control because the flesh/self is wild; this is the origin
of selfishness. Where the self or the senses is glorified, due to this, men
never reach the height of destiny. The base of every war today is the lack of
self-control.
How
can I subdue the Earthen Nature
Like an athlete I punish my body, treating it roughly,
training it to do what it should, not what it wants to.
Otherwise, I fear that after enlisting others for the race, I myself might be
declared unfit and ordered to stand aside. 1
Corr 9:27 TLB
1. Discipline your body: The above scripture suggests a
training regimen and a brutish treatment of little or no comfort. Control the
senses, don't let them control you. Determine to see, hear, taste, touch smell
the needful only, not just anything.
2. Make the decision to guard your soul against all
corruption. Your mind must be committed to the cause of the spiritual, not
carnal The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s
law, nor can it do so. Rom 8:7 also Proverbs 4:23
3. Consciously and intentionally submit yourself to the Holy
Spirit for help. And in the same way, the Holy Spirit helps us with
our daily problems and in our praying. For we don’t even know what we should
pray for nor how to pray as we should, but the Holy Spirit prays for us with
such feeling that it cannot be expressed in words Rom 8:26. TLB
Jesus can help you subdue that earthen nature, redemption is
for you
Keep yourself under.
