Past the Past

 

Just gone past another month, past many yesterdays, past sometime in time and finally into another dispensation.

A basic understanding of time helps one to know what to do per time (1 Chr 12:32).

For everything in life, there is definiteness of time (Eccl 3:1). No matter what happened yesterday, whether in business, relationship, family life, career, etc. there is yet a lot ahead of you (Phil 3:13), Paul admonished the Philippian church to ‘forget the past, reaching for the things which are before. It might be tough though, but it’s worth it after all. In Paul’s charge, I learned that no matter what was before, there are always things ahead; you have not finished until you are finished. In life, there is always hope for the living, this was Paul’s message.

See below truths that would help you comprehend the timeline of reality:

·         Don’t dwell (live in) on the past: Don’t be a yesterday-based Christian or person, let go past successes, victories, worries, and failures, they only ought to serve as sources of motivation or challenge, not a source of distraction. It is oft said that an enemy of success today is past success. Remember that no matter what you had or have, what lies ahead is greater, so, reach for the future and do not remain a past dweller.

 

·         When your memories are more than your dreams, you are a dead man looking for a grave: The message therein is; live in the present and hope for the future, don’t be irrelevant in the present time. Today is a gift, which is why it is called present; it is somewhat the biggest gift of time to each of us. I have got mine just as you have yours, live big dreams, and conceive great visions which are where tomorrow is enclosed; do know that every tomorrow is enclosed in reality capsules called visions

·         Your past failure is only as good as your memory of it: The good thing about all this is that a past is something, sometime or someone that has passed by. The past is always behind, not beside, we decide the placement afterward, whether behind, behind, or inside us, but reality has helped us with the ideal truth. The strength or success of any past failure with us is dependent on the value that we accord it. When we give room to past hurts and faults a sizeable chunk of our memory makes them the monster that haunt us.

                                 

·         Your past cannot be undone: The making of the future commences in the time called ‘NOW’. The time called now is the most important time in life, the simple reason ‘all the weight of the future rests in it and all the failure of yesterdays can cease from it’. You stand the chance to make today worthwhile. Friend, press on, march on, live on, forget yesterday, today is a great resource, a gift; it is the principal future determining factor. Leave the plane of self-pity, past failures, self-limitation and even past achievements move on to greater things, go forward, it is your time for advancement.

 A popular saying goes thus, ‘let by-gone be by-gone’ and another yet reads ‘let sleeping dogs lie’, the message in these is

‘GO PAST THE PAST’.
