Behold, there came wise men from the East...

The wise men met King Herod seeking the newborn king. They intended to worship this great newborn king and visited King Herod because they thought he would be a part of the dynasty (ruling class) of the day.

The king was troubled by the news because he knew that the people might be incited against him and overthrow his government. Many in Israel were anxious and nervous about the whole thing because they were uncertain about the eventual outcome.

The stunning thing about the wise men was the seeming accuracy in the description of the newborn, who was to be a divine ruler, worthy of worship.

There are people in the world today who can predict events quite clearly, be careful not to be swayed or deceived into following them. The real difference between what Christ has to offer and what the world gives is that Christ is mindful of giving and sustaining life. The world has nothing to offer.

The chief priests and scribes weren't mindful of the search and study of the scrolls until the king summoned them to search. They knew and confirmed the truth only when external pressure was applied to them. Do you get pushed before you serve the Lord or do what is right?

Indeed, the children of the world are in their generation wiser than the children of the light.
