Some folks believe that it is enough that your family and friends are Christians, and you need not have a personal experience of salvation.  Salvation is a personal experience and must be handled as such.

David said in the 91st psalm, ‘he that dwells in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the almighty’ notice that the verse started with ‘HE’ referring to a personal stance, it means broadly that salvation is personal; the apostle, Peter also said ‘Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ 1 Pet 2:5;  this verse also started with ‘YOU’, meaning that it is a personal thing, YOU must be born again, salvation is a personal thing, God is the God of the church as well as the God of the individual.

In the second chapter of the book of revelations, Jesus said repeatedly to the churches, ‘he that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches again, we see here the same thing, that though he talked about the churches, he was referring specifically to the individual, making it known that the Holy Spirit has a personal commitment to everyone.

Being born into a Christian home does not make you a Christian, neither does having parents who are clergy cover your sins or save you from the error of your way. You would not be saved because of your trust in or association with some people that you respect, it comes by faith in the saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.
