Train
up a child in the way that he should go…he shall not depart from it Prov 22:6
We are not left without
clue on how to lead and mentor the next generation of leaders: remember, the
future lies in those behind us. We are given a
basic guideline on how to handle children in such a way that they will safely
arrive in a secure future, this guideline according to scripture is simply to Train-Up the child.
It didn’t merely state
to train but ‘train up’; this has a special connotation, but what does it really mean?
To Train Up means to
expose the child to a disciplined regimen that would lead the child up in life; to Train is to expose the child to a disciplined regimen, not
essentially those that are needful for destiny or that which will help the child up
in life, rather, those that serve the desire of the masters.
These days we see
people and even society, leading children on many dangerous paths, they help them cheat in examinations, they buy results, some support a fraudulent lifestyle, immorality, so long it
brings home some cash, some lend their children to strange men, some expose
them to money, drugs, or some invalid lifestyle; it is all part of training.
Every child deserves a glorious future and that is why this is very important children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is His reward, Ps 127:3, God is counting on parents and mentors to help children make it up through consistent and intentional destiny leadership.
Training Up the child
is necessary because it helps localize the child in their destiny part. There
is a part that the child needs to go in
the way that he should go, you must discover, it is part of
your parenting/mentorship role,
The How
1. Be intentional in your
role: Be intentional in your parenting, create schedules, patterns, routines, guides
and laws, don’t be accidental, do it with intent and let it be known what you
are doing and trying to achieve, and importantly, be an example being conscious that your acts and words are being copied by that child.
2. Be involved in the developmental
stages of the child: Be involved, right from childhood, friendship, schooling, and every phase of the child's development.
3. Do not outsource your
responsibility: Do not let cartoons, social media, other media or popular culture take your role.
4. Be not afraid to
discipline or correct: Many formal institutions in the world including
governments have correctional facilities, why can’t the family have hers. The
family is the smallest and most important unit of society, why not, if not
5. Discern God’s lead over
that Child: Samson’s parents did, Jacob's parents did, Samuel’s mother did, Jesus’ parents did, Moses' parents did and
so should you.
Mentor that child, the weight of the next generation rests on this.
To train up any child, the parents must be well trained as well. We always give from what we have.
ReplyDeleteThe situation in the world today reflects the kind of foundation laid years back.
Though we have to be intentional, I pray God delivers the world from it's wickedness and the unavoidable consequences.
You can't give what you don't have. Parents, mentors and guardians need to know the necessary morals and live by them too. This way, you know what is right for the child.
ReplyDeleteTraining also goes beyond talking or formal training. Our children learn from a lot of sources and are a good example of "do as I do".
Godly parents need Godly training in order to safeguard, and train up their children in right path and in turn brings glory to God. May the destiny of our children and that of our owns never be truncated in Jesus name. God bless you sir
