This is a very common question on the lips of many people, especially those that do not belong to the household of faith but still, attribute a lot of events and happenings to God. These people also do not have an in-depth knowledge of God and of spiritual things. Another set of people that have this word used frequently are those people passing through challenging times and feel that the Lord does not sympathize with them.

Many times, we ask God why, or why me in other words, a pastor once said, 'why-me means why not someone else. It is me because it is me and it must be me'. I remember the scripture that says, 'every man is tempted...Ja 1:14, no temptation has taken you except that which is common to men', meaning that:

there is no specialty clause in temptation, all men would be tested or tried.

Also noteworthy is the fact that no one is tried/tested to extremes 'But God is faithful who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you can bear...1 Corr 10:13b', God ensures that it is always bearable, everyone would go through trying times. Every man is tempted, not some, so, it can happen to you.

In spite of all that happens, the Lord would make a way of escape 'but with the temptation, He will also provide a way out so that you may be able to bear it... 1 Corr 10:13c', well, whether we like it or not, we are endowed with more than we know or can think about, many times, what God wants us to know are the things that He has given to us freely that we might live as we ought to live and navigate life wisely ‘According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue, 2Pet 1:3, Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God, 1Corr 2:12.

Stop asking those questions but instead, start giving thanks and also seeking God’s escape provision.

Culled from my soon-to-be-released book, KNOWING GOD.
