Fear
is one of the many companions of man in the world today, this one brings
dread to many men, the echo of it sends many hearts failing: we see the health
of many men failing these days, we see potentials dying at an alarming rate, we
see people betraying themselves for the fear of… also, close to us is the reality of people wasting everywhere and the reason for it is fear of one
thing or the other. A funny twist to this is that many churches are full
not because many seek the Lord but because they are living in fear and are
trying to shield themselves away from it. The kind of fear stated here is
not reverence, it instead means to be afraid, an abnormal sense of respect or
worthlessness before another, the very kind that saps away power and makes one
less expressive, limited in purpose.
FEAR featured after the fall
Before the fall, there wasn’t that thing called fear, it
was love, perfect love, the kind that accommodates no fear ‘There is no
fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear’ 1 Jn 4:18, when we mature in
the love of the Lord, then fear would diminish in us till it does not have a place
in our lives and till our corruption be shed for the incorruptible.
For you did not receive the spirit of bondage
again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out,
"Abba, Father’. Rom 8:15
Here, the bible says ‘again to fear…’ again means that it
had been before, the truth is that Adam received that unusual yoke and
became captive. Under this spirit, captives always live in fear because
their lives are not secured. Adam received this for us.
‘I heard your voice and I was afraid…’
he used to love God’s presence(fellowship), he longed for God, he had a heart of worship, he was now unusually detached though he still could hear the voice of God and perceive His holiness.
Adam had been cut off from his royal line, he was now a
captive, a lawful captive, meaning that whoever had him now had the full rights
over him. The spirit of the world now lived in him 1Corr 2:12, this spirit
possesses or claims men for captivity, thus, Adam became a captive under this
spirit. He used to rejoice in God’s presence, he longed for his coming when he
was possessed of God’s spirit, but now, he dreaded his coming because he had
been possessed by another. When another spirit takes you over, you no longer
delight in the things of the Lord, neither would you delight in His coming or
presence.
Be careful whom you give yourself to, be mindful of what is taking you over,
the sure
way to facing fear is to first ensure that you do not allow the wrong influence
to dominate you. Fear breaks in when we allow the wrong influence into our
selves, facing it is as simple as setting this right.
